Bathroom Remodeling Costs and Ideas
67Bathroom remodeling is a little less involved, and therefore usually less expensive, than kitchen remodeling but it can make a big impact on the value of your home. A bright, clean, new looking bathroom is a luxury that prospective buyers love to see. Even if you are not thinking of selling your home, remodeling the bathroom may be just the thing to make your home your dream house.
You can create a great look for less money than you may think. Look at the bathroom ideas and then use them as fodder for your own creative muse.
Average Cost of Bathroom Remodeling
It is hard to say what the average cost of a bathroom remodel will be. There are many variables to be considered.
- Will you do it yourself or hire a contractor?
- Are you going to tear out the whole bathroom, including the drywall, and start from the bones?
- What types of fixtures are you looking at? A marble countertop will cost more than a laminate one.
- Is your bathroom large or small?
- Will you be changing the location of plumbing?
There are many more things that can have an effect on the cost of your new bathroom.
Do It Yourself for 5K?
Saying that, most people can do a pretty major do-it-yourself remodel for five thousand dollars which might include:
- New tile
- New fixtures
- New shower enclosure
- Paint
- Woodwork
- Lighting
- Bathtub
If you decide that you will need a contractor to help with your bathroom remodeling you can probably expect to pay at least ten thousand dollars, generally more.
Bathroom remodeling can be much less expensive than that if you are willing to do it yourself and only want to update your look rather than bringing in new fixtures. Again, the size of your bathroom will make a difference but with careful planning you can create a whole new look for under one thousand dollars.
Victorian Bathroom for less than 1,000.00
Here are the essentials of an updated Victorian style bathroom, assuming that you are not replacing the bathtub, toilet, or floor.
Spending a little more on a PricePfister faucet will pay for itself in the long run because it looks good. The bathroom vanity has a nice Victorian quality with the bonus that it is fairly simple and easy to clean. Add the curtains, and the towel rack, and border and you need very little to have a beautiful bathroom. The items shown add up to approximately $700.00. Good quality paint will cost about another $70.00, leaving you with about $230.00 for towels, wall décor, and throw rugs.
Take a look at the slideshow and see how you can create a bathroom you love for very little money.
Choosing Paint
An easy, or maybe the easiest, way to choose paint is to find a wall paper border that you love and pull one of the colors out of it. In the case of this beautiful laser cut rose border the medium peachy-mocha tone would be perfect. Add towels in a matching green and burgundy and your bathroom is totally put together.
Achieve a Country Look
To get a country look from this same bathroom just find gingham or calico patterned curtains and find a country themed border that you like. Trade the intricate, wrought iron towel holder for something a little simpler and you will have it nailed.
Creating a great look in your bathroom does not have to be expensive if you choose the right items, shop carefully, and do it yourself.

Good checklist to go through when planning to renovate/remodel one's bathroom. Though I might disagree on bathroom renovation's being less involved than kitchen renovations. Good stuff. I'm into home improvement myself.
Wow it seems you are a hard worker, I usually hire a contractor if I want to improve the look of my bathroom because I did not have much time to do it my self. But after reading your article, I was inspired to do it my self. Thanks for posting
As a vendor of discount material, I can only emphasize the importance of shopping around for fixtures and faucets. There's a lot of money to be saved by looking in the right places.
I like the checklist. I'll make sure to share your blog on Facebook!
