Candy Cane Crafts for Kids (and Kids at Heart)

By Marye Audet

Candy cane crafts for kids and kids at heart are a cozy way to spend a cold, December afternoon. There is just something about the candy cane that inspires the kid in everyone. Of all the foods served around Christmas time the candy cane seems to be one that speaks clearly of the magical qualities of a child's Christmastime.

Although the story of the Legend of the Candy Cane is wonderful, it is not true. The history of the candy cane is not clear. They seem to have started out as sugar sticks of white candy given to children as early as the 17th century. The stripes and peppermint flavor seem to have appeared around the beginning of the 20th century.

There is nothing more magical that the first glimpse of the Christmas tree on Christmas morning, presents strewn around and candy hanging from the branches. Whether you choose a coloring page, an ornament craft, or some other type of craft you can be sure that you will be creating memories that last for a long time.
