Copycat Mocha Frappuccino Recipe

By

Starbuck's Mocha Frappuccino

One of the most popular drinks at Starbucks in the summertime is the Frappuccinos. Whether you are addicted to the mocha Frappuccino or you love the caramel one the best you probably spend both time and money feeding your addiction at Starbucks.

The good news is that the Frappuccinos are easy to make at home if you have a few ingredients and a good, strong blender. In fact, they are easy enough that you may want to come up with your own variations of the original.

What Is a Frappuccino? Frappe?

The Frappuccino is basically a frappe. Unless you are in New England you will probably either not know what a frappe is, or you will think it another name for a milkshake. And it is…sort of. In most areas of New England a frappe is a milkshake and a milkshake is whipped and flavored milk. But not always.

Confused yet?

Frappe means "to chill" in French. The ingredients are often mixed with ice in a blender until they become slushy, and a froth forms on top. This is the definition used in this article, and obviously the definition that Starbucks decided on when they came up with the most popular iced coffee drink ever.

Copycat Mocha Frappuccino Recipe

Makes 2 coffee drinks

  • 2 cups ice
  • 1 cup milk (you can use skim, or low fat but if you want it more rich use whole milk.)
  • 1 cup espresso, room temperature
  • 1 to 4 tablespoons sugar, depending on how sweet you like it.
  • 1/3 cup chocolate syrup
  • Lightly sweetened whipped cream, chocolate curls for garnish
  1. Blend the ice, milk, espresso, and sugar until thick. If you like the drink a little less grainy then blend longer.
  2. Drizzle the chocolate syrup around the inside of two tall glasses.
  3. Carefully pour in the Frappuccino and then top with the whipped cream.
  4. Drizzle with a little more syrup and finish with chocolate curls.

Variations:

You can add a variety of Monin or Torani syrups to get different flavors in your copycat Starbucks Mocha Frappuccino. Consider the following:

  • Macadamia
  • Vanilla
  • Blood Orange
  • Caramel
  • Coconut

Starbucks Copycat Caramel Frappuccino Recipe

Makes 2 servings

The Caramel Frappuccino is rich and delicious with a buttery caramel flavor. It is very similar to the Mocha Frappuccino.

  • 2 cups Ice
  • 1 cup espresso, room temperature
  • 2/3 cup half and half
  • 1/3 cup caramel topping
  • 1-4 tablespoons sugar, depending on taste
  1. Whipped cream (slightly sweetened) for garnish
  2. Blend the ice, espresso, half and half, and sugar until thick.
  3. Drizzle the caramel syrup around the inside of two glasses and carefully pour in the espresso mixture.
  4. Add a dollop of whipped cream and more caramel drizzle.

Variations:

  • Almond and coconut syrups
  • Add a chocolate drizzle along with the caramel

The next time you have a craving for an icy cold Starbucks Mocha Frappuccino, or a Caramel Frappuccino save yourself some money by making it at home in your blender.

You will need a blender with a strong motor. Cheap blenders can burn out very quickly when you are making these types of blended drinks. Always buy the best you can afford and follow manufacturer's instructions carefully.

Remember that presentation is everything. Use frosted glasses and garnish creatively.

I love frappaccinos! Starbucks have the best, but Sheetz' frozen mochas are pretty awesome too. Btw, Sheetz is a gas station/good quality fast food/deli.
