Easter Cakes Decorating and Ideas

Whether you do a big Easter celebration or not, Easter cake decorating ideas are fun to look at. There is something about Spring that creates the desire to celebrate with something special.

Easter cakes can take many forms. They can contain any number of symbols including:

• Cross
• Flowers
• Bunnies
• Lambs
• Easter Eggs
• Easter Baskets

There are many more themes that you can create with your Easter cake.

The other thing to consider is size. Tiered cake, layer cake, cupcakes, and petit fours are all possibilities for an Easter cake.

You can buy Wilton pans in a variety of shapes that enables even the most novice cake decorator to create a beautiful Easter cake. Some of the pan shapes are retired but you can get them on eBay. Consider some of the following possibilities:

Egg Shaped – These pans come in either individual sizes or one  large size. You can bake your cake in these pans and then decorate it with buttercream to look like a large Easter egg. You can also use this pan to make a shaped Easter basket

Checkerboard – Use a checkerboard pan to create a checkered effect with pastel colors like pink, green, yellow, blue, and lavender.

Cross – Use a cross shaped pan and then decorate with lilies or dogwood blossoms.

3-D Bunny or Lamb – This pan makes the figure really stand up rather than laying flat. It isn’t difficult to do at all.

Flowers – This pan makes several individual flower cakes.

Cupcakes are quick favorites. There is just something about the diminutive size of a cupcake that has many people seeking them out. Cupcakes can be decorated easily for Easter with just a swirl of pastel buttercream frosting, sprinkles, or other decorations. You can get cupcake picks and other special items to give them the flair that you are looking for. Cupcake wrappers finish the festive look if they are the right kind.

• If you are good at icing flowers you can even bake individual sized cakes in small (clean) terra cotta pots. Add some flowers to the top and enjoy your edible garden.
• You can use marzipan or fondant to create small figures for your cakes if you can’t find what you want. Small fondant bunnies, chicks, and lambs are easy to make.
• The easiest decorations of all are the small chocolate Easter eggs, Peeps, and other Easter candy that you can put on the top of a simply frosted cupcake.
• You can add cut flowers like sweetheart roses to the tops of cupcakes or bigger fresh flowers to cakes.

Use a cupcake display rack, a cake plate or something else but remember that people need food to be beautiful as well as delicious. Spend a few minutes and find just the right cake place to show your cake off to its best.
